Semakaleng’s mother was a teacher who helped her develop a love for teaching. Her mother helped her to understand why it is important for a teacher to teach effectively by helping learners link what they are learning in the classroom with what they do at home. At the age of 14, Semakaleng was already thinking about administrative tools that could minimise the process of marking learner scripts while maximising the time spent by a teacher to give individualised feedback to learners. She earned a degree in BSc Financial Mathematics at The University of The Free State where she tutored 1st to 3rd year students on different mathematics modules. Her skills were vastly utilised when she started monitoring and supporting mathematics teachers at the age of 22. She researched on the best methodologies to use in the classroom so that learners could not only master but see that mathematics is fun, interactive and is for everyone. She proceeded in her studies by completing her Postgraduate degree in Higher Education. Some of the courses that Semakaleng has completed are Robotics training on LEGO Mindstorms EV3, Facilitator Training in Information, Communication Technology in Education. She worked at Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance (MGSLG) where she was an e-Facilitator and change Management Training Coordinator, she trained teachers on how to use SMARTBOARDS for teaching and learning and supported FET teachers to use GEOGEBRA as a tool for plotting graphs to enhance understanding of the concepts FUNCTIONS and GRAPHS. She assisted School Management Teams to utilize SA-SAMS and Tiple D (Data Driven Districts) effectively. During her time with MGSLG, she learned to create Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard. She worked with 2Enable Enterprises to develop Foundation Phase curriculum support materials that will be broadcast on free-to-air television channels, including the DBE TV channel and on various online platforms. She has vast experience in checking the translations of Mathematics Grade 4 – 6 materials from English to seSotho, Sepedi and seTswana are accurate and convey the intended meaning of the original. With the vast experience I have, I believe that I am the best candidate for the position of Manager of Special Projects and Partnerships.
